Fando y Lis

2005

Silver on gelatin
8 x 10” and 10 x 10”

Inspired by Alejandro Jodorowsky’s Fando y Lis, this black-and-white photographic series delves into the liminal space between reality and the dreamlike through collaborative self-portraits. The models, clad in bodysuits crafted from nylon stockings, emerge as ambiguous figures that defy conventional notions of gender and corporeality, morphing into unsettling, otherworldly beings.

The photographs capture fragmented characters ensnared in landscapes that evoke emotional ruins, echoing the aesthetic of the theatrer of the absurd. The interplay of light and shadow heightens the tension between opposing forces: masculinity and femininity, vitality and decay, reality and illusion. With its timeless atmosphere, the series explores themes of duality and metamorphosis, inviting viewers to confront their fears, desires, and the haunting beauty that arises from the strange and the vulnerable.
