Milagros

Porcelain and glazed ceramics

„Milagros“ is an artistic intervention that reinterprets the tradition of votive offerings through the medium of ceramics and porcelain, confronting the pervasive and harrowing reality of gender violence in Mexico, particularly femicides. The installation features human forms and fragmented body parts, like the women whose lives have been tragically lost. By reimagining these sacred objects—traditionally used to express gratitude or devotion—the work transforms them into memorials that simultaneously honor the victims and denounce the systemic violence they endured.

The choice of ceramics and porcelain underscores the fragility and vulnerability of the victims, while also evoking the enduring strength and resilience of their memory. This duality imbues the piece with a profound emotional weight, bridging the personal and the collective. „Milagros“functions as both a tribute and a call to action, compelling viewers to reflect on the devastating impact of gender violence and the urgent need for societal recognition, accountability, and justice. Through this installation, I seek to foster awareness, provoke dialogue, and inspire collective action to address this critical issue in Mexico and beyond.
