Site specific installation
Other Music Academy, Weimar, Germany
This site-specific installation at the Other Music Academy (OMA), a former DDR school, explores memory, transformation, and rebirth by reinterpreting historical and cultural motifs. Engaging with a site rich in history, it creates a dialogue between past and present, allowing new narratives to emerge.
A crib with a mirror prompts reflection on time and identity, while suspended wax drawings of the artist’s face accompany a dandelion wreath, their dispersing seeds evoking impermanence. Photographs and sculptures, including images of the San Luis Potosí desert and a textile piece woven around the artist’s feet, intertwine personal memory with broader historical narratives.
Inspired by the Mexican Day of the Dead altar, materials like rice, flowers, mirrors, and wax merge tradition with contemporary artistic intervention. The work invites viewers to contemplate the cyclical nature of time and the enduring power of renewal.
